Nurse Manager Job DescriptionManagementEnsure the Nursing Team work effectively to provide a high quality service to patients and to work effectively with other agenciesDevelop, review and implement nursing protocols in conjunction with the Partners and Management TeamSupport all members of the nursing/HCA team, providing guidance when necessary, conducting appraisals and training needs analyses as requiredCo-ordinate the nursing team rota, ensuring sufficient staff are available to meet patient needs and hit the targetsSupervise and assess the Nursing Team’s performance, ensuring a high standard of performance and personal development.Identify gaps within the Nursing Team skill set, and ensure staff are upskilled and trained accordingly. This includes: Nursing Team, HCA’s and GPA’s.Ensure resilience within the nursing team, in case of emergencies.Support the recruitment, selection and retention of nursing staff to meet the health and well-being needs of the practice populationTo organise monthly Nurse Meetings and follow up with any necessary actionsOffer and provide clinical supervision to other members of the practice nursing team and act as a Line Manager to HCA’s, Nurses and GPA’s.Develop a working environment that promotes healthy, safe and effective work outcomesClinicalIdentify, assess and manage patients with complex health needs, in all cases in accordance with practice policies & protocolsContinually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriateTo manage acute and chronic conditions and ensure the appropriate maintenance and use of chronic disease registersTo provide routine nursing care to patients as required in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSFParticipate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient careTo develop, implement and embed health promotion and well-being programmes and improve the health and well-being of the specific needs of communities, groups and individualsTo co-ordinate the provision of travel medicine services, and to ensure we promotion of the serviceTo support the team in dealing with clinical emergenciesLead the child immunisation clinic and work with the nursing team to ensure a robust recalling system for 8 weeks checks and baby immunisations.Identifying health trends and public health issues and working with the team and others to combat these by ensuring patient education and/or specific clinics (e.g. MMR clinics following the rise of Measles)Working with public health initiatives ensuring the work of the team is up to dateNursing TargetsContinually monitor the QOF targets and PIP reports to ensure we are on target and feedback to the Practice Manager and Targets Lead frequently.Highlight areas where we are not on target and communicate with the Recalls Lead/GPA’s/Management TeamOrganise Flu, Shingles, Pneumonia, Health Check Clinics etc. to ensure we are profitable and providing excellent patient careEnsure we have a comprehensive cervical screening recall system, and that smear results/colposcopy referrals are processed effectively and in a timely manner.Leading the team in achieving the immunisation guidelines and targetsComplianceLead by example in promoting high infection prevention & control (IPC) standards in clinical treatment and throughout the practice to ensure a quality service. Ensuring all rooms are CQC compliantAssist in compilation and implementation of policy, guidance and procedures relating to IPC in the practiceTo maintain updated knowledge and skills in IPC and feeding back / share information appropriately on matters relating to IPC to all practice staff.Participate in the review of significant events and support and participate in shared learning within the practiceEnsure all PGD’s are kept up-to-date and that all nursing staff are compliant with themEnsuring all rooms remain CQC compliantMonitor stocking levels and ensuring no out of date equipment or stock in found within the roomsQuality and AdministrativeWork with the GPA’s and Admin Team to reduce DNA’sEnsure all workflow and tasks are actioned in a timely mannerContribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions on ways to improve and enhance the team’s performanceWork effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients’ needsEffectively manage own time, workload and resources.Any other duties commensurate with the role to ensure the smooth running of the Practice.To apply, please contact Will Drake, [email protected] / 07443 192 261
