A new opportunity has arisen within the Gynaecology nursing team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for a Urogynaecology Clinical Nurse Specialist. You will be joining a team of specialist nurses, allied healthcare professionals and consultants who are committed to providing compassionate, evidence based individual care for women with bladder and bowel dysfunction and pelvic organ prolapse.This is an exciting post for a person that is passionate about developing expert skills in the field of Urogynaecology and particularly the development of our countywide pessary service. We are looking for an individual who is forward thinking, looking for a new challenge and who provides high standards of care. n ideal opportunity for a registered nurse currently working at senior band 5 or Band 6 who wishes to develop, enhance and expand their existing skills. If you have previous gynaecology nursing experience with experience of running your own clinic and working independently are motivated, inspirational and looking for that new challenge, then this could be the opportunity for you.You will provide clinically excellent and compassionate care. This role is Countywide with the urogynaecology and pessary service provision currently offered across three sites.Main duties of the jobProvide competent and skilled care of women with Urogynaecological conditions working within an established multidisciplinary team.Work as a specialist nursing resource within the outpatient setting not simultaneously as a registered nurse member of the clinic staff. Care will be provided under direct and indirect supervision with due regard for local and national guidelinesThe Urogynaecology specialist nurse will sit within the Specialist Nurse rota and be available to attend specialist clinics across the county Monday to Friday to ensure Urogynaecology patients needs are met.Provide effective leadership to more junior staff and to act as a positive role model.As a member of the gynaecology directorate multidisciplinary team to have responsibility for ensuring assessment of care needs, development and evaluation of programmes of care ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients.Liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in primary and secondary and co-ordinate all aspects of care in the best interests of the patient and family.Contribute to the continuing development of practice to all members of the directorate. Supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff as appropriate.To act in the best interests of the patient in situations where they are unable to make an informed choice for themselves. ClinicalWith indirect supervision to be responsible for the day-to-day care of urogynaecological patients visiting the department. Assessment of care needs to include simple and complex clinical problems of the patient.Specialist nursing duties may include but are not limited to: Pre and post operative visiting of Urogynaecology patients Management of women with vaginal pessary including audit and database Ante natal and post-natal visiting as requested by Obstetric team Enhance the communication link between primary and secondary care multidisciplinary team Assist with patients positioning, and placement of lines for urodynamic testing. Carry out simple Urodynamic testing including reporting of results. Perform stand-alone flow studies Perform bladder scanning Insertion / changing of vaginal pessary for prolapse management Teaching of Clean intermittent self-catheterisation Review of conservative management pathways as part of a planned programme of care Attendance at monthly MDT meetingResponsible for the implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the patient whose needs may be predictable or unpredictable and / or unstable and changing to ensure delivery of high standards of careTo attend and complete any courses required by the trust or the BSUGs to ensure safe clinical development and competencyTo identify the requirements of the patient needs in elective / emergency situations and have the knowledge and skills to act accordinglyTo establish and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups about difficult or complex matters to overcome any problems in communication and to ensure that appropriate information is shared, and patient needs are met.To support and involve patients / clients / carers relatives and liaise with and coordinate other members of the primary and secondary care multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of individualised care.To be responsible for maintaining patients records within agreed standards to ensure the care management plan is communicated to patients and other members of the multidisciplinary team.Adopt a positive approach to infection control, actively contributing to infection control policy and practice.2. Personnel.Participate in devising induction programmes for newly appointed staff.To assist the Department manager in monitoring staff performance when requested.To assist Lead Urogynaecology nurse in the maintenance of day-to-day discipline within the department.To inform the Lead nurse / responsible consultant of staff failing to meet the required standard of performance, and taking appropriate action where required.This job description will be subject to discussion and periodic review and may subsequently be changed by mutual agreement.Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential First level registration Post-registration qualification in oncology or relevant to specialty First Degree in health-related subject (or equivalent) or be willing to undertake Experience in gynaecological / female urological nursing / continence care at least 3 years Evidence of continued professional development Desirable Post-registration qualification in urogynaecology / womens health Higher degree in health-related subject (or to undertake within a year of being in post) Advanced communication skills course/counselling qualification. skills and knowledgeEssential Clear understanding of the clinical nurse specialist/advanced practice nursing role and the associated responsibility and accountability.
