An opportunity has arisen for a motivated, dynamic and committed Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to Join our friendly breast unit of five breast surgeons, a nurse consultant and four advanced nurse practitioners, a surgical practitioner nurse and three other breast CNSs.

We have a permanent full-time position - 37.5hrs per week, for a band 7 or a band 8a CNS, dependent on experience.

You will join an established breast care nursing team. We facilitate high quality specialist nursing care to all patients with breast cancer and their families and friends, from diagnosis, during adjuvant treatments (surgery including breast reconstruction, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted/ biological treatments, endocrine treatments and bisphosphonate treatment), after treatment helping them to move forward and those who develop a recurrence or metastatic disease, working alongside the metastatic breast CNS team.

Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to be able to work in partnership with the Royal Marsden Hospital in the provision of complex breast cancer treatment.

Kingston Hospital's breast service is an active member of the RM Partners group, The post-holder will be expected to participate in the Pan-London Breast Care Nursing Group.

Main duties of the job

  • You will play an active part in clinical practice, education, research/audit and the implementation of local and national guidelines. You will be required to make quality improvements in the provision of breast cancer services. And as clinical nurse specialists, we also act as resource to other health care professionals on breast cancer treatments and supportive care issues.
  • Leads the development, management and promotion of the breast clinical nurse specialist team and service, ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost-effective care.
  • Contributes to the identification of service objectives, annual report and annual work plan for the service supported by the lead breast cancer ANP and wider senior breast management team.
  • Care, support, provision of information, signposting and referral to other agencies for patients with breast cancer from diagnosis, through adjuvant and metastatic treatments.
  • Liaising with the breast multidisciplinary team to ensure a seamless service.
  • Facilitate nurse led clinics for Holistic Needs Assessments (HNAs), patient f/u for discussion of treatments (e.g. breast reconstruction) and the lymphoedema service for mild to moderate lymphoedema.
  • Facilitate the partnership external breast support services delivered onsite Micropigmentation service and external breast prosthesis service.
  • Facilitate on any health and well-being courses for patients once initial hospital treatment have finished in partnership with the survivorship breast ANP team.
